Your NNO Committee for 2010

Jon Michaels, Judy Wilson, Jay Simecka, Justin Boyles, Dave Graversen, Jeff Imparato, Stephanie Bunten and Tom Benaka

• Meet quarterly to plan and execute NNO work plan
• Attend the annual NNO event on August 7th as a member of the dignitary team
• Be available via e-mail year-round

Proposed Team of Volunteers: Lead, Law Enforcement, Safe Streets, Programming, Recruiting, Marketing and Vendor.

Lead Volunteer | JON MICHAELS, nnotopeka@gmail.com

• Lead NNO Volunteer Committee
• Benchmark with other Lead NNO Volunteers nationwide for new ideas
• Maintain and increase NNO budget to meet the needs of needed additional support

Law Enforcement Volunteer | Shawnee County Sheriff’s and Topeka Police
• Lead Project 365 annual project in Shawnee County
o How: designate a particular ‘problem area’ with the goal of working towards correcting that problem within an estimated “365” days – or, in other words, NNO 2009 – NNO 2010
o Responsible for capturing pictures at least once a month of ‘problem area’

Safe Streets Volunteer | JUDY WILSON, jwilson@safestreets.org
• Creates and implements annual timeline for NNO event
• Captures notes from all meetings and shares them via e-mail to NNO Volunteer Team
• Coordinates and communicates all meeting dates, times and venues


Programming Volunteer | DAVE GRAVERSON, dgraversen@cox.net
• Collect and share programming best practices with all participating neighborhoods
o How: block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and sheriff departments, parades, exhibits, flashlight walks, contests, and youth programs (NNO recommended)
• Partners with Safe Streets Volunteer in creating neighborhood informational packets prior to the NNO event
• Distribution of materials: Lock it, Remove it, or Lose it – Record it, Report it, Recover it – 211, etc.

Recruiting Volunteer | TOM BENAKA, tbenaka@swbell.net

• Recruit 15-25% new and sustain existing neighborhood participation
• Help identify community events and meetings to coordinate NNO Committee attendance to solicit new neighborhood participation (e.g., neighborhood watch meetings, etc.)
• Target 5-7 other organizations to host an NNO event (e.g., Topeka Rescue Mission, other non-profits and/or faith community that brings others together)

Marketing Volunteer | STEPHANIE BUNTEN, stephaniebunten@hotmail.com

• Promote awareness throughout Shawnee County on NNO year-round
o How: media relations for event coverage, maximize social networking (Facebook, blog and Twitter), securing business cards for NNO Volunteer Committee and marketing signage for participating neighborhoods, NNO t-shirts for committee, monthly communication with NNO participants and collecting NNO pictures to share

Vendor Volunteer | JEFF IMPARATO, libraryguy1@yahoo.com

• Build relationships with all vendors needed for NNO
o How: review existing vendor relationships, strategize on needed vendors to participate in NNO and recruit and secure new vendor relationships
o Secure transportation for dignitary visits during the NNO event
• Determine Target, the national sponsor of NNO, level of support
• Partner with Lead Volunteer to ensure there is transportation secured for the dignitary visits during NNO
